Born and raised in St Helens, Luke Lawson, the dedicated manager of Bold Miners FC, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role. His football journey is marked by impressive achievements and a deep-rooted commitment to the sport, making him an invaluable asset to the club.
Early Career and Playing History
Luke’s football career began at Penlake Junior Football Club, where he honed his skills as a talented left-back. His ability and dedication quickly made him a standout player, leading to significant accolades with St Theresa’s school team and St Helens Town School Boys, where he won two major player awards.
Luke’s potential was recognized early on, and he was scouted by Preston North End Academy, where he continued to develop his skills as a left-back. His versatility on the field also saw him performing as a striker and left winger during his time with the Blackpool FC Academy. Luke furthered his development with a stint at Wigan FC Academy, solidifying his reputation as a reliable and talented player.
Throughout his playing career, Luke transitioned across various positions, showcasing his adaptability. While primarily a left-back, he also performed as a central defender during his time with St Helens College Team and later moved into central midfield with The Gerard FC and Bold Miners FC. His natural left-footed ability and exceptional vision allowed him to excel in these roles, making significant contributions to each team he played for. Unfortunately, a promising playing career was cut short due to injury, but his love for the game never waned.
Transition to Coaching
Luke’s transition into coaching began during his college years, where he pursued an NVQ Level 2 in Sports Leadership and a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Outdoor Education. His coaching journey truly took off when he took over his son’s U9s team at Bold Miners FC. His success with the youth team paved the way for his current role as the manager of the Open Age team for the 2024/25 season. Having previously played for Bold Miners FC and served as a coach in the 2023/24 season, Luke was a natural fit for the managerial position.
